For many years now, my family (or at least portions of it) have gone down to the Victorian Country Christmas on the Puyallup Fairgrounds. Over the years we've gotten many ideas for crafts or gifts and enjoyed the family time together. Last year we thought we might end that yearly tradition. The vendors were the same, many of our favorites were no longer there, and the variety seemed to lacking. Combined with the fact that our usual fare of potato soup in the bread bowl just wasn't up to par and we were ready to pack it in. However, this year my daughter really wanted to go and it fell on her birthday weekend. We got our tickets and it worked out that my parents were able to get the time off and go with us (even taking a boyfriend along this year for the first time.) The drive down was long, as usual, hitting rush hour traffic - but somehow it was bearable. The cloud formations were amazing, the sunset stunning and the company was fun. We laughed and chatted. When we got there the booths were as we expected but somehow it was the just being there together that made it worthwhile.
In the last building I found these amazing pictures of everyday items, photographed in such a way to create letters. You could choose the photos/letters you wanted to form words and have them framed. They were incredible. Many of you know that I love to take pictures. I've been experimenting with different types and getting better a little at a time. Something about these pictures sparked my imagination. I see letters everywhere I go now and can't wait to start creating my own alphabet/words. They've made me look at my world in a different way and have inspired me. What inspires you? Where does your passion lie? How much do you invest in that passion? Does it equal your return? That's the great thing about passion and inspiration. You might invest a lot or a little but the return is often great because it is our passion. For some of us, it's our kids - or our jobs - our families - our friends - a hobby - a charity - an exercise - whatever it is, it's important to recognize it and feed it. When we feed our passions, we feed ourselves and we are better to the world around us.
If you don't know what you're passionate about or what inspires you, look for it. Listen for it. It might be closer than you know. When you open yourself up to see what's around you it may surprise you where inspiration lies. For me it was at the end of a long day, on a chilly December evening, with family and friends at the Victorian Country Christmas. Where will it be for you?
